First Sunday of Advent 2nd/3rd December- Catechesis

The Mass consists of two main parts, namely the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist, these being so closely interconnected that they form a single act of worship. In the Mass is spread the table both of God’s Word and of the Body of Christ, and from it the faithful are instructed and refreshed. Over the next six weeks we are going to reflect on the Liturgy of the Word in preparation for ‘The Sunday of the Word of God’ which was instituted by Pope Francis in 2019 and is observed on the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time.  In his Apostolic Letter ‘Aperuit Illis’, Pope Francis says ‘that devoting a specific Sunday of the liturgical year to the Word of God can enable the Church to experience anew how the risen Lord opens up for us the treasury of his word and enables us to proclaim its unfathomable riches before the world.’ When the Sacred Scriptures are read in the Church, God himself speaks to his people, and Christ, present in his Word, proclaims the Gospel.

Please pray for Paul Corrigan and Margaret Horne recently deceased and for those whose anniversaries occur around this time. MAY THE SOULS OF ALL THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED THROUGH THE MERCY OF GOD REST IN PEACE. AMEN
