HOLY FAMILY PARISH KILL-O-THE-GRANGE

Parish Mission Statement

Our Parish seeks to live as a family – supporting one another, open to all comers, building a community where each person feels wanted and cared for. To make this happen, we will work to grow in holiness through prayer and service and we will try to show God’s love in our daily lives.

If global warming were to happen over, say, ten or twenty thousand years, it would give the earth time to adapt.  But, to quote Pope Francis, “the speed with which human activity has developed contrasts with the naturally slow pace of biological evolution.” (Laudato Si, 18).  The global scientific community warns us we have only ten years or so to take the range of steps needed to stop average global temperature from increasing above one and a half degrees over where we are now in 2019.  A one-and-a-half-degree rise is very serious for all living things, but we can just about live with it.  Above this, and at some point, climate change becomes irreversible.  And yes, to stop it does demand radical action. Now, not in ten years’ time. Postponement is not an option for Christians. Holy impatience on the environment is demanded. So, pray, act and raise your voice in the public arena. Otherwise, we are sleepwalking into a grim future.
