Parish Environment Group

To conserve, we have to be radical.

Being a Catholic is a very radical commitment.  It often obliges us to go against powerful social and economic currents.  Upholding the right to life of the unborn. Insisting that all forms of private property have a social purpose and that social justice is intrinsic to a healthy society.

Today, that commitment demands, as Pope Francis states, radical decisions to reverse the trend to global warming (Laudato Si, par.175).

This responsibility falls on each of us as well as on our government and society at large.  For Catholics, it is intrinsic to our faith.

So the daily steps of recycling, cutting down unnecessary car journeys, using less plastic, lobbying our local politicians, are practical expressions of our duty of care for the planet which God the Creator has entrusted to us.
