Sr. Clare Setright RSM
Sr. Clare Setright died peacefully on Monday, 20th April 2026, at McAuley House, Beaumont, Dublin.
Clare Ann was born in Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare, on 22nd December 1938. She was born to John and Maeve Setright (née O’Dea). She is survived by her sister, Mairead (Dublin), and her brother, John (England).
Clare attended U.C.C., Cork, from 1964 to 1967, where she studied English and Irish.
Clare entered the Convent of Mercy, Ennis, on 24th September 1958. She made her Final Profession on 27th July 1964. Her Profession motto was “Thy will be done”. Following her Final Profession, Clare taught in California for 35 years. Clare returned to Ireland in 1999.
Clare had a wonderful sense of humour. She was an avid reader and could converse on any topic. She loved music and was very proficient on the organ. Her openness and hospitality endeared her to all who met her.
In the year 2000, she became a member of the team at Mercy International, Baggot Street. She moved to Mackintosh Park in 2002 and remained there until March 2026. While there, she ministered as a Parish sister in Holy Family Parish for 12 years, greatly loved by clergy, staff and parishioners alike.
Clare will be sadly missed by her sister and brother, her nieces and nephews, her 9 grand-nieces and her 8 grand-nephews. We extend our sympathies to her Mercy Community, her many friends and all who loved her in life.
