THE ENVIRONMENT Pope Leo: The ecological crisis is a summons to profound interior conversion and one where we can live out our vocation to be ‘protectors of God’s handiwork (LS,215) in this way, we recognize and become aware once more that creation is a divine gift entrusted to us. Pope Francis wrote: the entire universe speaks of God’s love…soil, water, maintains: everything is, as it were, a caress of God’ if we believe this, then to lose a species to extinction or to exploit the Earth, is to lose something of a message of the Creator and this fractures our relationship with nature, with people and with God. And yet 6% of wildlife is gone since 1970
